Two cops dismissed for dowry illicit relationship, harassment and assault | Mumbai news

Mumbai: The Mumbai police have dismissed two members of its constabulary for having an extra-marital affair. They were also booked for dowry harassment and assaulting the wife of the male constable.

The dismissed male constable – identified as Krishna Kumar Pandav – was last posted with the Navghar-Mulund police station and was having an extramarital affair with a lady police constable posted with the Naigaon Local Arms Division.

Last year, Pandav’s wife got to know about the extramarital affair, a police officer said, adding, “The wife had alleged that her husband had been harassing her over dowry demands, but she refrained from filing a police complaint. However, the harassment gradually increased with time as he got into a relationship with the woman police constable.”

She said that when she confronted the duo, the two assaulted her, added the officer. Pandav’s wife then filed a complaint of dowry harassment and assault against them with the Solapur police.

Solapur police informed Mumbai police about the registration of the FIR against two members of their constabulary. The police then initiated a departmental inquiry against Pandav and the female cop. During the inquiry, a detailed statement from Pandav’s wife was recorded.

“During the inquiry, the allegations levelled against the two police personnel were found to be true and the two were found guilty of charges pressed against them. Hence based on the inquiry report the two were recently removed from police service,” an IPS officer said.

Since the two accused maligned the image of the police force and also it amounted to indiscipline, the department has given them the strictest punishment, a police source said.
