The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) announced on Thursday that their two -day nationwide strike would be held on 24 and 25 March as per the schedule. This decision has been taken due to no positive results in the conversation with the Indian Bank of India (IBA). UFBU members met the IBA to interact on various issues, including all cadre recruitment and five -day work weeks.

L. Chandrashekhar, general secretary of the National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), said that no solution has been found on these major issues. The UFBU, which is a umbrella body of nine bank employees unions, had already announced a strike on these demands. These include the demand for filling the posts of employees and officers directors in public sector banks.
In addition, the union has also demanded withdrawal of recent instructions from the Department of Financial Services (DFS). He says that these instructions threatened the security of the employees’ jobs. Also, this will adversely affect the employees. The UFBU has also opposed the “micro management” of public sector banks by DFS, and has said that this is weakening the autonomy of the bank board.
Also, other demands include solving the remaining issues with the IBA, amending the Gratuity Act and raising the limit to Rs 25 lakh. Apart from this, there has also been a demand for exemption from income tax. The UFBU includes major bank unions such as All India Bank Employees Union (AIBEA), All India Bank Officer Federation (AIBOC), National Bank Employees Confederation (NCBE) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA).
