The Punjab government removed the dharna of farmers who have been running on Shambhu and Khanouri border for 13 months on Wednesday night with the help of police. The police demolished the platforms on the Khanouri and Shambhu border by running the bulldozers and the work of uprooting tents is also going on. Actually, the farmers were sitting here on a dharna since 13 February-2024. Earlier, the meeting of the central government and farmer organizations in Chandigarh on Wednesday was inconclusive.

After the meeting was over, more than 300 farmers including farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallawal, Saravan Singh Pandher returning to Khanauri and Shambhu border were taken into custody. Now Amritsar-Ambala-Delhi National Highway will be opened on Thursday. However, barricading on Shambhu and Khanouri border has not been removed yet.

During the police action, there was a fierce scuffle between the farmers and the police, the turban of some peasant leaders got down. The government has deployed around 5000 police personnel on Shambhu and Khanouri border. At the same time, internet services in the border area have also been stopped. Farmers took to the streets at different places in the state to protest against the police action. All farmer leaders, including the opposition, have opposed this action of the police.
