Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has shared information about the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. He said that, the aircraft was maintained well, its last major investigation was scheduled in June 2023 and the next investigation in December 2025. Its right engine was repaired in March 2025, and the left engine was inspected in April 2025. Both the aircraft and the engine were regularly monitored, which did not show any problem before the flight. We are waiting for the official inquiry report with the entire aviation industry.
‘Intensive investigation of Boeing 787 aircraft continues’
He further stated that, after getting instructions from DGCA on 14 June 2025, we are conducting a thorough investigation of our 33 Boeing 787 aircraft. So far, inspection of 26 aircraft has been completed and they have been approved for service. The remaining aircraft are currently in maintenance and additional investigation will be done before they are brought into service. He also said that after review, the DGCA has confirmed that our Boeing 787 fleet and maintenance processes fully meet the safety standards.
Black Box – Next stage of investigation begins
The black box (DFDR and CVR) of the aircraft were recovered in two parts. Its first set was received on 13 June. Whereas, the second set was recovered on 16 June. This aircraft model is equipped with two black box sets, which is expected to get more information.
Where will the decoding of the black box be? AAIB will decide
Some media reports said that the black box is being sent abroad. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has given clarification on this. According to the ministry, Aaib will decide whether decoding of black box will be in India or abroad. This decision will be taken after investigating all aspects related to technical, security and privacy. The ministry has appealed to all people and media not to spread rumors without confirmation, and allow the investigation to be completed seriously.
The Ahmedabad aircraft accident is investigating a multi-disciplinary team of AAIB, which is active since June 12. In this, the team of US NTSB and aircraft manufacturer (OEM) is also helping in investigation under ICAO rules. Local administration and agencies are also getting full support in this.
