Cinema moves out of his father’s clothes business
Rajendra Kumar was born on 20 July 1927 in Sialkot city of Punjab province of British India, which is now in Pakistan. His family came to India after partition. His father started clothing business in India. But, Rajendra Kumar was interested in cinema, so he decided to try his luck in the film world. He worked as an assistant for many years before becoming a hero. He first got work as an assistant to director HS Rawail. He worked with HS Rawail for nearly five years and during this time worked as an assistant in films like ‘Patanga’, ‘engagement’, ‘Pocket Mar’.

Actor came to Mumbai with 50 rupees in pocket
Rajendra Kumar saw a round of struggle amidst stepping into the industry and touching the pinnacle of success. He had taken his steps towards Mumbai to become an actor, when he had only 50 rupees in his pocket and he also got 50 rupees by selling the clock received from his father. After coming to Mumbai, when he first worked as an assistant to the director HS Rawal, he received Rs 150. While living with him, Rajendra Kumar learned the nuances of cinema.

‘Mother India’ speeds up career
His first film ‘Jogan’ came in the year 1950. Rajendra Kumar’s first film was undoubtedly released in 1950 but took him a long time to make his name in cinema. His struggle in cinema continued till 1957. This year, Bollywood’s iconic film ‘Mother India’ was released. In this, Rajendra Kumar played the role of Ramu, the elder son of Nargis. His role was undoubtedly small, but made a major impact on the audience. Then, he did not look back in his career. Only after this, Rajendra Kumar’s film ‘Gunj Ruti Shehnai’ was released, in which he worked as a lead actor and got upset.
