The Sona Commentar controversy, which began after the death of businessman Sanjay Kapoor, has taken a dramatic form. Sanjay Kapoor’s mother Rani Kapoor has appealed to the UK government to investigate the mysterious death of her son. According to reports, Rani Kapoor, Sanjay’s mother and former president of Sona Commentar, have formally approached the British authorities and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the ambiguous conditions related to the death of her son in London.
Sources associated with the case have confirmed that an official criminal complaint has been filed before the British authorities. In this complaint lodged by Rani Kapoor, the nature of Sanjay Kapoor’s accidental death is questioned, and cited ‘mysterious circumstances’. In this case, the British Law Enforcement agencies have been appealed for immediate intervention.
A close person associated with the family said, “The events related to Sanjay’s death are extremely worrying.” He said that immediate and detailed action has been demanded from British authorities. A source confirmed that US officials were already monitoring the situation, as Sanjay Kapoor was an American citizen.
Rani Kapoor broke her silence and expressed her anguish for the first time in an interview after the death of her son. She also expressed concern over the future of the company (Sona Commentar) established in association with her late husband. He said in a trembling voice, “I still don’t know what happened to my son. Now I am old. I want something relaxed before leaving.”
On the other hand, Sona Commentar claimed that Rani Kapoor had no direct or indirect connection with the company since 2019, but her statements seem to refute this. The controversy further increased when the group’s listed branch, Sona BLW Prison forgings Limited issued a sharp rebuttal. In the regulatory information given to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the company dismissed the claims of Rani Kapoor as ‘baseless’ and ‘legally unconfirmed’ and reiterated that they had no position or rights in the organization.
Earlier, Rani Kapoor allegedly wrote a letter to the board alleging that his son was forced to sign the documents behind the closed doors soon after his death, which he described as ‘extremely suspicious’. He further claimed that he was deprived of access to his own bank accounts and was left dependent on some people economically.
According to him, no one was authorized to represent the Kapoor family on the board. Despite their request to postpone the annual general meeting, the company held it at the scheduled time. In response to his allegations, Sona Comstetar has sent a legal notice to Rani Kapoor. The notice has demanded them to stop spreading ‘false and harm’ information from the company. In the notice, he has been strongly denied his allegations of mismanagement and pressure, describing him as ‘malicious, false, wrong and unconfirmed’.
