Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests and economic security. He made this statement when questions are being raised by the US and the European Union on India about oil imports from Russia. This situation is created after the commencement of Ukraine War.
India bought oil from Russia because earlier the oil from where the oil came, now Europe was being sent due to the war. Jaiswal said that at that time the US had also encouraged India to buy oil from Russia to maintain stability in the global energy market. The aim of whatever oil India is getting from Russia is that consumers in the country can get cheap and reliable energy.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to impose heavy tariffs on India. Trump alleged that the goods sent from India to America are going to increase the tariff in large quantities. Trump said that India is buying a large amount of crude oil from Russia and selling it to other countries and is earning huge profits from it. Trump had announced a punitive penalty for purchasing oil and gas from Russia along with imposing 25 per cent tariffs on Indian imports last week.
Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social, India is not only buying oil in large quantities from Russia, but is also earning huge profits by selling large parts of that oil at high prices in the open market. Along with this, Trump said, India does not care about how many people are killing Russia’s war machine in Ukraine. For this reason, I am going to increase the tariff in America on Indian goods. Thank you for focusing on this issue!
