According to the information, the Election Commission team will visit Patna on 4 and 5 October and review the preparations for the election. According to sources, the assembly election schedule is likely to be declared next week. The first phase is expected to be held after Chhath festival i.e. in the last week of October.

Commission’s plan for assembly elections

The Election Commission is deploying 470 supervisors for Bihar and some assembly by -elections. Apart from this, a meeting of general, police and expenditure supervisors will also be held on 3 October. The Bihar Legislative Assembly has 243 members and their current work period ends on 22 November. The last assembly election in the state was held in three phases, at that time the Kovid-19 epidemic had an impact.

SIR of final voter list after 22 years in Bihar

This time the last voter list of Bihar is being published after the special intensive amendment (SIR). This amendment was made after a gap of 22 years. This year, on August 1, the Strait Voter List was published. After this, by 1 September, citizens and political parties were given the opportunity to register claims and objections to improve it. There were a total of 7.24 crore voters in the featic list.

Opposition criticized, Election Commission response

However, opposition parties sharply criticized this SIR and claimed that this could affect the right to vote for crores of citizens. In response, the Election Commission has clarified that it will not allow any qualified citizen to be out of the voter list and also will not allow any untrue person to join the list.

NDA vs India alliance in assembly elections

Bihar Assembly Elections are the main contest in the ruling alliance NDA and Opposition India alliance in 2025. On one hand, NDA has many parties including JDU, BJP, Hum, LJP (Ram Vilas). At the same time, the opposition India alliance includes many parties including RJD, Congress, Left and VIP.
