The Ladakh Union Territory Administration has accused climate activist Sonam Wangchuk of inflammatory rhetoric and provoking the public. By issuing a statement on Tuesday, the administration clarified that there is no witch hunt (targeting) against Wangchuk, but legal agencies are investigating on the basis of reliable information and documents. The Ladakh administration has clarified all the subjects in which an eco system is questioning the government regarding the arrest of Wangchuk in the country.
The statement of the Ladakh administration said that the case of financial irregularities and foreign exchange violations on the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL) is under investigation. HIAL is releasing degrees as a recognized university and foreign funds were not disclosed. Similarly, FCRA cancellation of SECMOL is based on several violations, in which the appeal process is available.
The statement said that the administration announced talks with Ladakh leaders on September 20, 2025 and showed flexibility, but Wangchuk made statements. He tried to incite the public, especially the youth, citing Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In an interview to ‘Ladakh Express’ on September 11, he said that youth do not want peace, Gandhi’s path is not necessary, and if people take to the streets then it can be ‘bad’.
In addition, Wangchuk, while making an excuse for Kovid, advised the protesters to wear masks, caps and hoodie. On 8 June 2025, on his YouTube channel ‘Achoaye Ningastam’, he spoke of uprooting the government by bringing a revolution like ‘Arab Spring’ and referring to steps like self -immolation. The administration said that other ABL leaders came forward to calm the aggressive crowd at the site of the Anshan site, but Wangchuk did not stop a hunger strike and demanded talks.
