Let me tell you that 9 children from Parasia block of Chhindwara died due to cold cuff syrup. Apart from this, many children are undergoing treatment. Investigation has revealed that non-pharmacopia grade proprinte glycon has been used in syrup. It feared that he was contaminated with Diathylene Glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol. Both of these are poisonous substances damaging kidney.
Following this report, the Tamil Nadu government also immediately banned the sale and use of cold syrup across the state. Orders were given to freeze stock from its wholesale and retail shops. The company was issued a stop production order and a show-cose notice has been sent to cancel the manufacturing license.
At the same time, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has also issued a statement on this issue. The ministry says that at the request of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the Tamil Nadu FDA took samples of Coldrif Kapha syrup from the manufacturing complex of Messrs Srisan Pharma in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The results of these samples test have been revealed. DEG in samples has been found to be higher than permissible limits. Apart from this, a team with experts from NIV, ICMR-Niri, CDSCO and AIIMS, Nagpur is also analyzing various samples and factors to assess the causes of Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh and its surroundings.
