India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvathaneni Harish presented India’s side during the open debate on the current situation in West Asia, peace in Gaza and Palestine issue. He said that India thanks Russia for convening this meeting in UNSC. He said the discussions are taking place in the backdrop of the Gaza Peace Summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh on October 13, 2025, which India participated in and welcomed the signing of the historic peace agreement.
Harish said, India hopes that this diplomatic initiative will pave the way for lasting peace in the region. He praised the US, and especially President Donald Trump, who played a key role in taking the agreement forward. He also praised the contributions of Egypt and Qatar. India believes that dialogue, diplomacy and two-state solution are the only path to peace. He stressed that all parties should abide by their commitments and avoid any unilateral steps.
He made it clear that India’s position is based on the events since October 7, 2023 — condemnation of terrorism, appeal to end civilian suffering, demand for release of hostages, unhindered humanitarian assistance to Gaza and stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire. India sees this peace agreement as a catalyst towards lasting stability in the region.
