U.S to punish Saudi Arabia for OPEC+ oil cut? Biden Admin ‘reviewing response’

The United States is reviewing ‘response options’ regarding its relationship with Saudi Arabia after the Riyadh led OPEC+ grouping decided earlier this week to make large cuts in oil production. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday said ‘we’re consulting closely with Congress’ on the steps that Washington will take next. The U.S has called the oil cartel’s decision ‘shortsighted’ as it joins Russia in maintaining a stranglehold on oil exports to prevent prices from falling further. The Biden administration has been mulling a response after the OPEC+ oil producers, which include Russia, agreed to cut output by two million barrels per day – largest reduction since the height of the pandemic in April 2020.
