Mumbai: Mumbai Metro Line 3 will make it convenient for commuters to access other modes of public transport as it has connected at eight different spots with railways, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and other metro lines or monorail between Colaba and Seepz.
This includes connectivity with Mumbai’s biggest two termini Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Churchgate.
“The underpass at CSMT will be connected with the Metro underpass at two points making it very convenient for commuters from railways to access metro line 3 or vice versa,” said Subodh Gupta, Director, Projects, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation.
“Meanwhile, as we are not able to connect Churchgate metro station with the railway station directly we have ensured that the entry or exit ways of both are aligned in such a way that there is easy access for commuters,” he added.
While the CSMT Metro station is near Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, the existing underpass will easily connect to the upcoming Metro station. There will be a pathway that will ensure easy connectivity without commuters having to come up on the road or surface.
Moreover, Mumbai Central station will also have multimodal integration with MSRTC and railway station. “One of the entry and exit ways will open at MSRTC depot and on the opposite side will be integrated with the railway station,” added Gupta.
He said that Grant Road station on Metro line 3 is just 150 metres away from the railway station and commuters just need to take a small walk to connect Metro with the railway station.
At Mahalaxmi, the line is close to the monorail station and at Bandra Kurla Complex it integrates with the Mumbai Metro Line 2-B and with Metro Line 1. At Marol Naka also the metro will be integrated with Metro Line 1 and at Aarey station with Metro line 6.
In the first phase, from Aarey to BKC, which is likely to be ready by December 2023, 96.2% of station and tunnel works are completed and almost 90% of station construction is also completed.
Stations like SEEPZ, Cuffe Parade, Santacruz, BKC and Dharavi are nearing completion. Meanwhile, the tiling and ceiling work is ongoing at stations like MIDC, Marol Naka and BKC. Till now, the overall project progress is 76.6%. Tunnelling work is 99.6% complete while the track work is 45% complete.
