Mumbai: A major portion of the Sea Conch resort, next to another resort linked with former state minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab, was demolished by the district collector on Sunday. The complete demolition of the resort is expected to take a few more weeks. Parab-linked Sai resort has got a breather from demolition due to a court order of maintaining the status quo.
Following the complaint by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Kirit Somaiya, in May 2021 for alleged violation of the CRZ norms, the district collector initiated action against the two resorts in Murud Village in Dapoli. Following the orders from the Ministry of environment and forest & climate change and Maharashtra coastal zone management authority (MCZMA), the demolition of Sea Conch Resort has begun from Tuesday.
“The demolition is expected to go on for at least a few more weeks. After the demolition, the reclamation of the land and plantation of the trees is a major task which will take at least a couple of months. We have given three months to the contractor for it,” said an officer from the office of Ratnagiri collectorate.
Somaiya on Sunday tweeted, “Sea Conch resort demolition work got momentum.”
Somaiya also alleged that Anil Parab previously owned the resort and did not pay the electricity bill of ₹1,57,950 for 12 months until March 2021.
Though Parab has claimed that he has nothing to do with the resort and it is owned by businessman Sadanand Kadam, Somaiya said that it was sold only after the complaint was lodged by him.
