Mount Semeru, Indonesia’s highest volcano, has erupted, spewing a giant cloud of ash. The grey volcanic ash turned the sky black and engulfed the entire Semeru mountain. Under a thick black sky, volcanic lava snaked through the homes of east Java province. Thousands of people living nearby were evacuated amid a wail of emergency sirens. Indonesian authorities have asked people to keep at least 8 kilometres away as “hot avalanches” of lava poured. Watch this video to learn more.
