Mumbra police in Thane have arrested two people for allegedly tying a 17-year-old with a cement rope and assaulting him with sticks suspecting him to be a thief. The accused also shot the video of the assault and made it viral. The video reached Mumbra police who then traced two of the accused and arrested them. Police said seven to eight more accused were still absconding.
The arrested have been identified as Kailash Babulaal Sharma, 30, and Jamir Jakir Shaikh, 32, both residents of Mumbra. The minor suffered injuries on his head, hand, leg and abdomen, and is being treated in a hospital.
The incident occurred at MM Valley, Gate No. 2, Kausa, Mumbra on May 31 midnight.
Ashok Kadlag, senior police inspector of Mumbra police station, said, “An assault video went viral on social media. Thereafter, we went through the video and alerted local informers about the incident. We traced the minor and his family, and took him to Kalwa Hospital for treatment. Following this, the two accused were traced on Sunday and were arrested. They were produced before the Thane court and remanded to police custody till June 10.”
Based on the complaint of the minor’s mother, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
