U.S. Air Force clean chits crew of wrongdoings after Afghans plunged to death

The crew of a US military cargo plane that civilians desperately hung onto during the chaotic withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan has been cleared of wrongdoing. Several Afghan citizens had plunged to their death while clinging onto one of the last American planes and body parts were later found on the wheel well of the aircraft. The review team of US Air Force, however, has termed the aircrew’s action appropriate. They also said the crew used sound judgment “in their decision to get airborne as quickly as possible when faced with an unprecedented and rapidly deteriorating security situation.” The harrowing incident happened on August 16, 2021 a day after Taliban takeover.
