The Rajya Sabha also approved its seal after two and a half hours of discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill for more than 13 hours. The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 was decided in the Rajya Sabha, not by sound votes, but with the division of opinion. During the voting, 128 MPs and 95 MPs voted in opposition in favor of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025. Along with this, the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill, 2024 ‘was also passed from the Upper House. Like the Lok Sabha, the Upper House also rejected all the amendments of the opposition in the bill. The bill will now be sent to the President for signature and will take the form of law as soon as the government is notified.

Rijiju said, “Register properties cannot be tampered with earlier, this amendment was included in JPC only on the suggestion of the opposition.” Similarly, the six -month time limit for non -registered Waqf Trusts was also extended on the suggestion of the opposition. Government is not interfering in Waqf properties- Kiren Rijiju
On the inclusion of non -Muslims in Waqf boards, Rijiju said, “First of all, people should understand that the government is not interfering in Waqf properties.” The government will not interfere in religious institutions, but the management of Waqf properties is an administrative matter and the dispute of Waqf properties is not just a Muslim.
