Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear in the MP-MLA court in Chaibasa, Jharkhand on Wednesday. The case is allegedly related to alleged derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a rally in 2018.
Rahul Gandhi was in Jharkhand on Tuesday. He came here to attend the funeral of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren, which took place in his native village Nemra in Ramgarh district.
Rahul will go to Chaibasa to appear in court from Ranchi
Congress leader and former Jharkhand Pradesh Party President Rajesh Thakur said that Rahul Gandhi will stay in Ranchi on Tuesday night. He will go to Chaibasa to appear in court on Wednesday. After this he will return to Ranchi and leave for Delhi.
Special court order was challenged in High Court
On June 2, Rahul Gandhi challenged the order of a special court in the Jharkhand High Court on June 26 to appear in court. The Congress MP’s lawyer had informed the High Court on June 10 that his clients would not be able to appear on the scheduled date. Instead, he sought the date of August 6. His request was accepted by the High Court.
Pratap Kumar filed a defamation suit
A person named Pratap Kumar filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly making derogatory statements against BJP leaders at a rally held in Chaibasa in 2018. Kumar, in his petition filed in the magistrate’s court in Chaibasa, said that Gandhi’s statements were defamatory and deliberately made to tarnish Shah’s image.
Security increased in Chaibasa before Rahul’s arrival
Meanwhile, security has been increased in Chaibas, District Headquarters of West Singhbhum before Rahul Gandhi’s arrival. Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar) Sandeep Anurag Topno said that the Western Singhbhum district administration has made adequate security arrangements to maintain law and order. Topno said that a helipad has been built at Tata College Ground, where Rahul Gandhi will land by helicopter at around 10 am on Wednesday. The SDO said that he is likely to appear in court and return to Ranchi at around 10.40 am.
