Some media reports claimed that India had banned the purchase of new weapons and aircraft purchased from the US after 50 per cent tariff of US President Donald Trump. This news was denied by the Ministry of Defense. The Defense Ministry official has said that reports of India stopping defense procurement negotiations with the US are false and concocted. It is clarified that in various cases of procurement, progress is being made according to existing procedures.

In fact, the Trump administration has recently imposed 25 percent tariff on India, which has come into force from August 7. Apart from this, 25 percent additional fee has also been imposed by India for purchasing oil from Russia, which will be effective after 21 days i.e. from 27 August. In this way, the total tariff on India has reached 50 percent, which is one of the most tariffs imposed on any country by the US.

There will be no business talks: Trump
After imposing the tariff, Trump said in the Oval Office that there will be no trade talks between the two countries until the tariff issue between the two countries is resolved. The talks over the trade agreement between India and the United States began in February about a month after Trump assumed the presidency. That is, India was in the first few countries that preferred the trade agreement with the US as soon as possible. The two countries also announced their delegations for trade talks. However, despite five meetings in the last five months, the Indo-US could not signed a agreement.
