On Monday, a court in Bhatinda district of Punjab ordered MP and actress Kangana Ranaut to appear privately in the defamation case on 27 October. The court has rejected Kangana’s demand to appear through video conferencing.
What is a defamation case
According to PTI news, a defamation case was registered against Kangana Ranaut. This case is connected to the farmers’ movement of 2020-21. Actually, Kangana Ranaut had a re-tweet. It had commented on Mahinder Kaur, a woman from a village in Bhatinda district. Kangana in a tweet compared Mahinder Kaur to Bilkis Bano, an elderly woman of Shaheen Bagh movement.

Kangana’s video conferencing application rejected
Kangana’s lawyer filed an application in the court demanding appearing through video conferencing. But after hearing the arguments of both sides, the court rejected Kangana’s application.
Advocate Raghubir Singh Beniwal, who appeared on behalf of the complainant Mahinder Kaur, said, ‘We opposed the application of Kangana Ranaut, as according to the law, an accused cannot be exempted from appearing in the initial hearing of the case. We requested the court to ensure their presence, and issue arrest warrants if absent.
The complainant made this allegation against Kangana
Mahinder Kaur (73 years) has alleged in her complaint that BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut made false statements about her on Twitter (now X account). Kangana hurt the image by incorrectly describing him as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh.
