The demand for formation of 8th Pay Commission and restoration of old pension is gaining momentum among the central government employee organizations. The government had said that the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission will be implemented from January 1, 2026, but the chairman and members of the commission have not been appointed yet. In such a situation, the employee organizations are worried that now only seventy days are left, how will the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission be implemented in such a short time. All India Defense Employees Federation (AIDEF), one of the largest trade unions representing defense civilian employees, organized an all India ‘Protest Day’ on Tuesday against the delay in the notification of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Employees took to the streets demanding constitution of the Eighth Pay Commission in defense units across the country, restoration of old pensions and removal of ban on compassionate appointments in defense establishments.
