Angry about chatter, madrasa teacher hits girl with curtain rod | Mumbai news

Mumbai: An Arabic teacher with a madrasa in Marol has been booked for allegedly assaulting his 12-year-old student with a curtain rod on Sunday.

According to the Sahar police, the incident occurred at the Gausia madrasa near the Marol pipeline at around 7.20am on Sunday.

The police said that the teacher, Taufiq Ali, got violent with his students when they refused to stop talking during his lecture.

“Taufik hit five to six of the male students with his hands and during this time, he suddenly picked up an iron curtain rod and threw it at Sadika Khan (12),” said an officer with the Sahar police station.

Sadika was hit on her shoulder and sustained injuries. She narrated the same to her parents after she went home an hour later, and her father, Shiraj Khan, subsequently took her to a local clinic for a check-up and then to the police station late on Sunday evening.

“Based on the father’s statement, we have booked Taufiq for assault with a dangerous weapon under the Indian Penal Code, along with cruelty to a child under relevant sections of the Bombay Children’s Act, 1948,” said senior police inspector Sanjay Govilkar, Sahar police station.

Govilkar added that investigations into the case are still underway, that the victim is under treatment and out of danger, and no arrests have been made in the case as yet.
