‘Legitimising Russian…’: Ukraine claims UN body lying over Zaporizhzhia plant

Fierce faceoff erupts between Ukraine & UN nuclear watchdog over a planned visit to a Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia power station. Ukraine’s state nuclear company Energoatom has accused the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency of lying over sending invite to visit the plant. Energoatom said there was no invitation, and that any visit would legitimise Russia’s presence there. The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called the allegation of lying ‘ absurd’. He claimed his organisation had a contractual obligation to perform safety inspections. According to Russian media, the IAEA is in touch with Putin administration over a possible visit.
